Road Rage Ninja Woman 2: The Director’s Cut

15 May

Screen shot 2012-05-15 at 7.08.50 AM

According to the video posted to the site on 17 April – it’s unclear if this is the specific clip that prompted the police appeal – the cyclist in question is a hunt supporter, deliberately riding slowly in the middle of the road to prevent a car containing hunt monitors from reaching the location where a hunt is taking place.

The cyclist’s own action in this case, if the circumstances reported in the video are correct, are of course non-violent and certainly don’t excuse the actions of the woman in black; the background, however, including the length of time he rode at that pace and failure to stop at a passing place does provide context that help explain how the situation arose.

Lady Gaga features in Simpsons season finale

11 May

gaga-1simpsons_normal

Lady Gaga admitted she was nervous filming a part for the 23rd season finale of The Simpsons, which celebrated its 500th episode in February.

The Simpsons is the longest-running prime-time scripted programme on US TV and is contracted to run for another two seasons.

The episode entitled ‘Lisa Goes Gaga’ is being shown on 20th May in America and features Lady Gaga visiting Springfield to cheer up Lisa.

Lady Gaga, who is embroiled in a row about her upcoming tour of Indonesia, said: “I make music, but I don’t do voice-overs every day of the week, and their characters are so awesomely convincing and sincere and wild and funny, I had to remind myself constantly of the sincerity of the humor. I would say this is one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. My dad’s probably going to do 80 backflips when the episode comes out.”

Yeardley Smith, who voices Lisa Simpson, told Broadway.com about the pop star’s appearance on the show, claiming: “This is extraordinary! I’m stunned that she has time in her schedule that she’s coming to our studio to record.”

Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch of the Beastie Boys dies at 47 ‎

5 May

SafariScreenSnapz001

“It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam “MCA” Yauch … passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer,” his rep said in a statement.

“Born in Brooklyn, New York, Yauch taught himself to play bass in high school, forming a band for his 17th birthday party that would later become known the world over as Beastie Boys,” the statement added, about the hip-hop group he created in1979 along with bandmates Michael “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad Rock” Horovitz.

GlobalGrind website first reported the news, which quickly became a top trending item on Twitter, with tributes pouring in from fans and his fellow musicians.

“Adam was incredibly sweet and most sensitive artist who I loved dearly and was always inspired by his work. He will be missed by all of us,” hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, who was Yauch’s mentor, said in a statement.

Singer Justin Timberlake tweeted  he was “crushed to hear the news of Adam Yauch’s passing. A true pioneer of art. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”

Rapper Snoop Dogg tweeted, “RIP MCA U are a Legend and a pioneer,” and rocker Fred Durst wrote, “A very sad day indeed. Adam Yauch RIP.”

Even New York Senator Chuck Schumer passed on his condolences, tweeting “Born and Bred in Brooklyn, U.S.A., they call him Adam Yauch, but he’s M.C.A. RIP Adam.”

The Grammy Award-winning group first hit the big time with their 1986 album, License to Ill.

The band, best known for hit singles such as (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!) and Sabotage, released seven studio albums and were inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in April.

Yauch revealed in 2009 that he was receiving treatment for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node.

He is survived by his wife Dechen, their 13-year-old daughter, Tenzin Losel, and his parents, Frances and Noel.

WATCH: Creamfields Sydney Party Goer Falls Off 20m Scaffold – Video Here!

2 May

creamfields 2012 fall

We’ve all seen the fools at music festivals who climb up the lighting tours in a bid to take their partying to a higher level.

Yesterday Creamfields Sydney played host to another festival goer determined to push their limits, when a reveller scaled a 20m tower before falling off it.

The unidentified man, was topless at the event (of course) and bounced off support poles on the way down, and somehow managed to walk away largely unhurt.

He even managed a thumbs-up to horrified onlookers as he tottered off to nurse his ego.

His epic fall came during Swedish DJ Alesso’s set at yesterday’s dance festival, which was headlined by David Guetta.

Alesso later tweeted, “Btw that crazy guy that jumped from the PA is alright….”

The man was ejected from the event and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital by ambulance but then discharged himself before attempting to gain entry back into the event.

Check out the footage below, and remember — don’t try this at home! This guy was super lucky (and super stupid).

Sydney Entertainment Centre to be demolished

18 Apr

art-sydneyentertainment-420x0

The Sydney Entertainment Centre will be demolished and the Convention and Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour closed for up to three years as the precinct undergoes a $1 billion makeover.

NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell today announced the development of an integrated exhibition and entertainment precinct in the city’s CBD.

The fully integrated convention centre will increase the size of the existing precinct by two-thirds to 20 hectares and will include the largest exhibition space in Australia at 40,000 square metres.

“The project will mean a complete facelift for Darling Harbour – as well as the world-class facilities,” Mr O’Farrell said today.

Up to 3500 jobs are expected to be created during the construction.

The 30-year-old Sydney Entertainment Centre is to be demolished while the exhibition and convention facilities will be closed from late 2013 to late 2016.

The project is aimed at boosting the competitiveness of the major events industry in the state, particularly in terms of the Asia-Pacific.

“They will bring NSW an economic benefit of more than $1 billion over five years,” Mr O’Farrell said.

“NSW has already lost $150 million in economic benefit over the four years to 2010-11 because the current facilities have not been able to accommodate 169 conventions and 12 exhibitions,” Mr O’Farrell said.

The new facilities will include the biggest meeting room space in Australia at 6000sq m and the biggest Australian convention hall capacity.

There will be a red-carpet premium entertainment facility with a capacity of at least 8000 people, suitable for international entertainment events and ‘mega’ conferences.

“The NSW government is creating a vibrant world-class convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct at Darling Harbour that will keep Sydney centre stage as Australia’s global city,” Mr O’Farrell said.

Infrastructure NSW (INSW) will lead the delivery of the new facilities as part of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) tailored for the project.

During the three-year construction period, Sydney’s major events industry will remain open for business, Mr O’Farrell said.

Sydney Olympic Park, Moore Park, the Australian Technology Park at Eveleigh and various Sydney hotels will play an expanded role in hosting events during the construction period.

Coachella 2012: Rihanna hits Calvin Harris party for ‘We Found Love’

17 Apr

13fcd546881d11e1a9f71231382044a1_7

To paraphrase Rihanna, whose 10-minute cameo during British house producer Calvin Harris‘ set at the Sahara Tent was one of the worst-kept secrets of the weekend, “This stuff only happens at Coachella.”

The “stuff” of which she spoke was the notion of her performing on a non-arena stage in a booming dance tent holding tens of thousands of people while DJ/collaborator Harris pushed raver-friendly love songs with 130 bpm energy and the masses screamed along.

In fact, they screamed along to Harris’ set before she arrived, bouncing along to “Bounce,” his track featuring Kelis (alas, no cameo, no hologram), whose recorded voice carried across the tent. The masses had gone batty for Harris’ string of infectious bangers: “When the Weekend Comes,” played on a Sunday, was a portent for Coachella part 2 next weekend, and “You Used to Hold Me” was a melancholy love song turned up to 11 and filled with booming bass.

But as the set wore on and Harris’ biggest hit went unplayed, the crowd waited for that melody, because most understood that with the melody would come Rihanna. And that’s exactly what happened.

Harris screamed an introduction, and the Barbados-born singer pranced out onstage wearing high-waisted shorts and a top with “Peace” written on it. Confetti flew, fog blew out of the machines, the huge video screens strobed, and one of the world’s biggest pop stars sang her hit song “We Found Love.” It was a lot of hoopla, it’s true, for such a short little ditty played exactly the way it’s been spun on the radio billions of time before. But her presence at Coachella, as well as her well-orchestrated stage dive near the end of her appearance, got the cameras flashing, the people talking, and the Sahara tent booming.
